The True Story Concerning A Pre-911 U.S. Terrorist Crash of an Airliner Departing New York City; By Lam Bastion

The crash of EgyptAir Flight 990 went largely unreported to the public as a whole. The crash was in the headlines for a brief period, but the cause of airline crashes in general are often a long time coming, especially when the airplane falls into the ocean as this one had. The recovery of the black boxes (flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder) is much more difficult and time consuming when the wreckage is underwater. In this case, the Flight Data Recorder and Cockpit Voice Recorder were recovered from the Atlantic Ocean by U.S. Navy remote-operated vehicles on November 9 and November 14, 1999, respectively. Upon recovery, they were immediately packed in water to prevent/delay the onset of corrosion and shipped to the Safety Board's laboratory in Washington, D.C., for readout.

The significance of not heavily reporting the particular crash of EgyptAir Flight 990 to the public is that our government believed that this crash was the result of a suicide by the pilot; possibly on religious grounds - (sound familiar?).

EgyptAir Flight 990 was a trans-oceanic flight that required a full complement ‘relief crew’ be on board - in order to avoid a single pilot or other crew member exceeding the maximum allowed duration on duty or at the controls of a commercial flight; in accord with international agreement.

Shortly after take off from JFK airport, the Relief First Officer encouraged the Senior Pilot to ‘take an impulsive break’ during which time the Relief Pilot pushed the controls of the airplane forward – deliberately crashing the jetliner into the Atlantic Ocean - 60 miles south of Nantucket, Massachusetts.

During the initial dive, the Senior Captain; sensing something amiss, made his way back to the cockpit, sought to determine the problem; and getting virtually no response, acted to get into his chair to affect recover of the airplane. His efforts to do so were thwarted by the Relief Pilot who kept chanting “I rely on God” while he pushed the controls in the opposite direction - against the inputs of the Senior Officer.

This crash occurred on Halloween night; October 31, 1999; twenty-one months; or roughly 670 days - prior to the September 01, 2001 (911) terrorist attacks on the United States. The findings of cause by the NTSB were adopted March 13, 2002; approximately one-half year after 911. However; it is reasonable to assume that there was at least an indication of a deliberate suicidal terrorist act that destroyed this airliner long before 911 occurred.

After a full and detailed inquiry into the crash; which included the exhaustive study into the black box flight data input and voice recorders, also after extensively checking into the aircraft’s maintenance and operational background, the National Transportation Safety Board ruled precisely as follows;

“The investigation did not reveal any evidence of a failure condition within the airplane's elevator system that would have…. [You will have to buy the book to read exactly what happened next, also to discover one of the finest legal defenses ever presented against our government. But the question is:
“Should we have been warned?” (the author)]
