Racism and discrimination continue to be problems today. In an effort to aid victims of racial discrimination, researchers have been examining various factors that may provide protective benefits against racial discrimination. Ethnic identity and the role it plays in the relationship between perceived racial discrimination and psychological distress is examined in a sample of Latinos. Previous research has demonstrated a moderating effect of ethnic identity on the relationship between perceived discrimination and psychological distress; however, this study also considers social support and self-esteem as covariates. Hierarchical regression indicated that ethnic identity did not moderate the relationship between perceived racial discrimination and psychological distress. Future research and results are discussed in the context of previous literature.
