Harry Redknapp has said he is looking for the "right player" to add to his already talented squad as clubs prepare for the opening of the January transfer window at midnight.

Spurs are fifth in the Premier League, just five points off the lead, and in the last 16 of the Champions League.

“If the right player comes along we’ll be interested,” said Redknapp.

The Spurs manager warned, however, that finding such a marquee player is hard.

“Those types of players are very difficult to find. Any club who has a player who is top class will not want to sell.”

Redknapp is expecting to see players leave White Hart Lane, but insists that Robbie Keane, who is he prepared to release, will only go on a permanent transfer. Keane has been linked with a loan move to West Ham.

Redknapp said: “Robbie’s name keeps coming up but it’s not for a loan deal. It will have to be permanent.

“He is still a good player who will fight for his place and could be important for us.”

Redknapp, though, is predicting a quiet January window.

“I would think Manchester City will go out again and buy because they have such fantastic backing and money is no object.

“Other than that I don’t see too much happening up the top end. Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger may not do too much.”

Spurs face Fulham tomorrow on the back of a 10-match unbeaten run, but Jermain Defoe and Younes Kaboul are suspended and Keane is unlikely to be available because of a hamstring injury.

“Fulham had a great result at Stoke and Mark (Hughes) has done well wherever he’s been,” Redknapp said.
